Aston Villa still hold out hope of securing the services of Joao Felix this summer.
According to journalist Ryan Taylor, speaking to GiveMeSport, there aren’t currently any top level suitors for Joao Felix, so Aston Villa are “well-placed” to get a deal done for the player.
Felix has previously been underwhelmed by the prospect of joining Aston Villa, but if no Champions League suitors come forward then he may well reconsider his stance on signing up to Unai Emery’s squad, given there is no place for him at Atletico Madrid.
Felix would represent a huge statement of intent for Villa if they can tempt him to join. With Europa Conference League football to come this season, Emery will need a deep squad to draw on, and he would add quality and depth.
It would be a major investment needed to bring Felix to Villa Park. The 23-year-old’s wages with Atletico Madrid equate to around £241,000-a-week. The La Liga club will want the vast majority, if not all, of his salary covering before they’ll sanction a loan move.

Felix could take Aston Villa to the next level
If Emery could get the best out of Felix, though, it would be an investment worth making. At his best, the 31-cap Portugal international is an elite talent. He showed flashes of quality whilst on loan with Chelsea last season, but the general chaos at Stamford Bridge prevented him from hitting the heights he is capable of.
On top of competing in Europe, Villa will be desperate to maintain their positive momentum in the Premier League this season. Emery will need the likes of Ollie Watkins and Emiliano Buendia to carry on performing and producing at the level they were last season. Felix could help drag Villa up to the next level. The club will be hoping he changes his mind about joining the Midlands outfit.
