Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa scored an outrageous solo goal in his side’s pre-season draw with Brentford, and his effort has drawn praise from his teammates.

The 25-year-old dribbled out from defence past the majority of the Brentford team before smashing home to open the scoring in a friendly in what ended up a 3-3 draw.

Konsa was handed the man of the match award, and the goal has gained a lot of attention for the sheer quality and audacity on display from the centre-back.

“I think it’ll be the best goal I’ll ever score in my career,” the defender admitted afterwards, and his teammates were quick to praise him on Instagram following the game.

Tyrone Mings has compared him to Lionel Messi, whilst Emi Martinez has referred to Konsa as the “Terminator.”

The best of the reaction can be seen below.

Will Konsa start for Villa?

There is stiff competition for a starting place in Villa’s back four. New signing Pau Torres is expected to start, and Tyrone Mings has been impressive since Unai Emery came in.

Both Torres and Mings are left-footed, which could mean Konsa keeps his place as a right centre-back, whilst Diego Carlos can stake a claim for a starting position following his long-term injury.

Konsa has been a reliable performer for Villa in his 138 appearances, and with goals like this, he will hope to keep his place as a regular in the side.

With Villa set to compete in the Europa Conference League, Konsa will gain plenty of opportunities to show his quality to Emery, and he has so far taken pre-season by storm.

Villa have two more friendlies against Lazio and Valencia before their opening day fixture against Newcastle, and Konsa will hope to start at St James’ Park.
