Glenn Whelan and Alan Hutton are among eight senior players that have been released by Aston Villa following their promotion to the Premier League.

Villa confirmed on their official website that Whelan, Hutton, Mile Jedinak, Mark Bunn, Albert Adomah, Micah Richards, Ritchie de Laet and Tommy Elphick will depart the club when their contracts expire.

From the above players, only five have appeared on a regular basis this season, with Jedinak, Whelan and Adomah part of the matchday squad that beat Derby County in the Championship play-off final.

Winger Adomah started the encounter against Frank Lampard’s side, as the 2016 summer signing played a big part in Villa opening the scoring at Wembley and subsequently going on to win the game 2-1.

Most of the soon-to-be-departing players have played a huge part in the club’s rise back to the promised land and will be remembered for a long time by the supporters.

But now Villa must plan for life in the Premier League and trying to prove their worth amongst the best of the best once again.

More than likely, Dean Smith and Co. will target younger players and trying to build for the future, with some experienced players added in here and there.
