Belgian defensive midfielder Leander Dendoncker is being considered for an exit by the Aston Villa hierarchy, according to reports.

The 28-year-old joined the Villans on deadline day last summer in a deal worth £12.9million, but now finds himself on Unai Emery’s potential departures list.

This is according to Fabrizio Romano who said, “Aston Villa are open to listen to offers for Leander Dendoncker despite his longer running deal.”

Romano added that the 32-capped Belgium international is “rated” by Emery but that there’s a lot of competition.

With the recent addition of Youri Tielemans adding to an already full midfield, it is easy to see why the former Wolves man might be first out the door.

It also seems Villa will have no problems shipping Dendoncker out. Romano claims French and Italian clubs have already enquired, along with Premier League sides being keen on a deal.

The player himself is said to be open to any proposal, likely in order to guarantee first team football ahead of the 2024 European Championships.

How will Villa’s midfield line-up?

While many laughed when Gabby Agbonlahor talked up Villa’s Champions League hopes, the team itself is beginning to look strong enough to be in that conversation.

Boubacar Kamara is among the best young defensive midfielders in the league, with the Frenchman having a stellar first season under Emery.

Spoilt for choice, Villa also have Brazilian Douglas Luiz who is in his prime along with Tielemans who has a widely known high ceiling.

Marvelous Nakamba has also returned following a successful loan move to Luton town last year.

Not to mention the qualities of John McGinn and Jacob Ramsey, Villa truly have a top midfield department which is full of different and quality options.

This, however, makes remaining at Villa Park difficult for Dendoncker as he likely finds himself sixth choice.
