Pau Torres recently completed his move from Villarreal to Aston Villa for a reported fee of £31.5million.

Torres has experience playing under Unai Emery in Spain, which is likely a significant factor behind the two reuniting here.

The defender had been at Villarreal since 2003 when he joined their academy aged just six, making his debut in 2016 and becoming the first Valencian to debut for the club in 13 years.

Torres would go on to make 173 appearances for his boyhood side, racking up 12 goals, while he has also won 23-caps for his national side.

He made his Spain debut in 2019 and has been present in the defence at the past two major tournaments.

Torres will probably look back at his role in Villarreal’s 2021 Europa League win as a highlight, beating Manchester United on penalties, one of which was scored by Torres.

Torres joins Youri Tielemans as a new Villan this summer as Emery looks to improve on his seventh-place finish.

Torres spotted in training

Torres was unveiled yesterday and has got straight to work in training for Villa as he was photographed today on day one.

Aston Villa took to Twitter to post their new signing’s first moments on the training field with his teammates.

Torres is seen here with fellow Spanish speaker, Argentine midfielder Emi Buendía, as the two make their way out for training as teammates for the first time.

They will be excited to get into match action, with Villa kicking off their preseason on Saturday against Walsall before heading to the USA.

Upon their return to the UK they will take on Lazio and then Valencia at Mestella before the Premier League commences the week after.
