Aston Villa learn possible Jacob Ramsey recovery timeframe as injury expert shares verdict after Liverpool

Aston Villa were beaten 2-0 by Liverpool on Saturday night but perhaps more alarmingly, Jacob Ramsey was taken off with an injury on the stroke of half-time.

Ramsey started on the left flank for Aston Villa against Liverpool and the Englishman was arguably Unai Emery’s biggest threat in the first half.

The 23-year-old pressed superbly out of possession and every time he picked up the ball in space, he had the defenders backtracking off him.

Ramsey had a chance to score when he outfoxed Trent Alexander-Arnold with his footwork, though he placed his effort wide of the target.

After watching him cause problems against the league leaders, it was a huge shame to see him come off for John McGinn with an injury just before the break.

Expert shares Jacob Ramsey injury update

Ramsey has had torrid luck with injuries in recent years. Last season, the talented wideman missed an astonishing 36 matches with several issues, including a metatarsal fracture and a toe problem.

Most recently, the former England under-21 international missed Villa’s match with Manchester United after suffering an injury in the win over Bayern Munich.

So, when he sat on the pitch in the 45th minute asking for physios to come on after picking up a problem, Villa’s worst fears would have materialised.

It has since emerged that Ramsey has picked up a hamstring injury and while an official verdict on the injury is yet to be heard, injury analyst Physio Scout took to X to share their opinion on the possible extent of his blow.

“This looked like more of a hamstring strain, than hamstring tightness as he pulled up from a jog then lunged into a challenge,” the injury expert explained.

According to the above verdict, if he’s suffered a Grade 1 injury, he could be out for 2-4 weeks while Grade 2 is 4-6 weeks recovery time.

Of course, these are just estimates but it gives a rough idea of how long Villa could be without Ramsey.

Ramsey would be a huge miss for Aston Villa

Ramsey adds an injection of pace into the Villa attack and for the time he was on the pitch tonight, he looked the most likely to make something happen.

It feels as though when he’s beginning to build momentum, he gets dealt a blow that stops him from kicking on and developing into an even better player.

Emery has had to deal with his fair share of injury troubles this term, and while he’s got a big enough squad to cope, losing some of his best players hasn’t helped.

The Villans are now winless in their last five matches in all competitions but they won’t be disheartened by their display against Liverpool, as they competed well for the most part, and could have perhaps scored if Ramsey remained on the pitch.
