Aston Villa are keen to bring Pedro Goncalves back to English football this summer.
According to A Bola, Aston Villa and Inter Milan are the two clubs most seriously considering making a move to sign Pedro Goncalves. However, Sporting are very reluctant to let the 25-year-old go, so Villa would have to trigger his £69 million release clause to prise him away from the Portuguese club.
Goncalves has had his chance to impress in English football before. The versatile attacking midfielder spent two seasons on the books at Wolves between 2017 and 2019, but only made one appearance for the club. His only outing came as a substitute in a Carabao Cup tie.
Goncalves has since gotten his career back on track with a spell at Famalicao, and now at Sporting. His recent form has seen him earn two senior international caps for Portugal. Goncalves may feel his has unfinished business, and a point to prove, in English football. A switch to Villa Park would give him the chance to finally shine on the Premier League stage.

Should Aston Villa sign Pedro Goncalves?
Unai Emery’s successes at the club since taking over in the dugout last season have earned him the right to take risks in the transfer market. There is also a need for Villa to add depth to their squad as they’ll have a Europa Conference League campaign to contend with this season.
However, there are too many question marks over Goncalves’ ability at the highest level. What’s more, his release fee is absolutely astronomical. Given that Emery is already exploring options elsewhere, there is no need for the club to take such a big risk on Goncalves this summer.
