The international break is just around the corner with plenty of Aston Villa stars earning a call-up for their nations.

Unfortunately, domestic football will be paused again after the weekend with the second round of international fixtures this season commencing.

It comes at a bad time for Unai Emery’s team, with Villa on fantastic form after they just beat Bayern Munich 1-0 in the Champions League.

However, any international fixtures give a chance for many of Villa’s squad to develop further and gain new experiences.

Yet, after one star was called up for international duty, many of the Villa Park faithful want him to withdraw, citing it as an ‘insult’.

Three Villa players have been called up to the Three Lions’ Under 21s squad. Alongside Morgan Rogers, both Jaden Philogene and Sam Iling-Junior made the cut.

However, while the latter two may benefit from the experience, many are questioning why Rogers is still in the group.

The winger has been crucial to Emery’s plans since he signed in February and has now become one of Villa’s best players.

Yet, despite his form, he has yet to receive his full England call-up and instead remains in the Under 21s.

As a result, many of the Villa Park faithful have called on the youngster to withdraw from the squad, citing the call-up as an ‘insult’.

Many Villa fans see Rogers’ call-up as a ‘waste of time’ for the youngster, especially with him now being significantly better than the expected standard.

England Under 21s workload could be unhealthy for Morgan Rogers

It is no secret that the fixture list in football is a joke. Every year, it seems to be increasing, with the additional games in Europe being the latest addition.

Therefore, it seems risky for Rogers to go away with the Under 21s to compete in what will be pointless fixtures for the winger.

The Englishman has just turned 22 years old and will not be able called up to the squad for much longer.

Surely for England, it would make more sense to give a sensational talent like Rogers two weeks rest and give another youngster a chance.

While withdrawing now could be unwise, the Under-21s simply need to stop calling Rogers up, especially when he is being exposed to so much first-team football with Villa.
