The Championship season is coming to a close and Aston Villa are seemingly heading for a top-six finish and the dreaded playoffs.
Here we are looking at who has been Villa’s Player of the Year for the 2018/19 campaign. Last time out, we analysed Tammy Abraham and John McGinn. Next on the list is Conor Hourihane:
Depending on where you stand, some find Hourihane to be underrated, whilst others feel he doesn’t impact games enough.

At times this season, he has been criticised for his performances, but then he has been lauded for producing the goods for his team.
Over the course of the season, the 28-year-old has played 39 league games for his side, scoring seven goals from the middle of the park and supplying his teammates with 11 assists [transfermarkt].
Both under Steve Bruce, and now Dean Smith, Villa have constantly showcased their ability to score from crosses and there is no doubt that Hourihane is one of the best deliveries in the team. Whether it be from a dead ball situation or from open play, he can test the opposition defence.
Added with that, he can score wonder goals, start up attacks and put in a tackle when need be. Truthfully, when he is not in the team, Villa miss his all-round capabilities and he is an underrated figure.
Hourihane probably won’t win Villa’s Player of the Year award, but he definitely deserves a mention and some respect for he has done this season.
