Aston Villa confirmed signings, transfers in and out, loan exits, releases for 2023/24

Aston Villa are set for a busy summer transfer window as coach Unai Emery stamps his mark on the Birmingham outfit. So, keep up to date on their confirmed signings and transfers out.

The Villa Park team are embarking on their first off-season with Emery at the helm following his appointment last November. And Aston Villa are set to back his plans in the market after taking them from a possible relegation fight to qualifying for the Europa Conference League.

Emery secured Aston Villa’s return to Europe for the first time since 2010 on the final day of the 2022/23 term. His success yielded a return on the £28m the Villans spent in January to bolster his ranks. So, keep up to date on all of Aston Villa’s confirmed summer signings here.

Youri Tielemans – Aston Villa confirmed the signing of the 26-year-old in a free transfer from Leicester City on June 10. The Villans moved fast to gain the Belgian’s signature ahead of his release by the Foxes. He spent four seasons at the King Power Stadium and won the FA Cup.

Pau Torres – Aston Villa confirmed the signing of the 26-year-old from Villarreal for £33m on July 12. Emery pushed the Birmingham outfit to sign the centre-back having worked with the Spaniard at Villarreal. They also won the 20/21 Europa League together at the La Liga side.

Moussa Diaby – Aston Villa struck a possible club-record transfer from Bayer Leverkusen for the 24-year-old on July 22. The Villans paid an initial £34.5m rising to £52m with add-ons to land the France forward. He offered 14 goals and 11 assists in 48 games in the 22/23 season.

Nicolo Zaniolo – Aston Villa sealed the arrival of the 24-year-old on loan from Galatasaray on August 18. The Italy midfielder moved to Villa Park for the 2023/24 campaign for £4m, plus a conditional £22m compulsory purchase option. He struck five goals in 12 games at Cimbom.

Marvelous Nakamba – Luton Town confirmed the signing of the 29-year-old from Aston Villa on July 20. The Hatters moved to buy the Zimbabwe midfielder after he helped them secure promotion into the Premier League. He played 20 times over the latter half of 22/23 on loan.

Wesley Moraes – Stoke City announced the arrival of the 26-year-old from Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee on July 28. The striker spent the 2022/23 season on loan to Levante and hit four goals in 43 games. He had scored six in 26 matches after joining Villa for £22m in 2019.

Aaron Ramsey – Burnley confirmed the signing of the 20-year-old from Aston Villa for £14m on August 22. The Villans also retained a buy-back option for the England U20 midfielder. He left Villa Park having graduated from their academy for just one senior game between loans.

Cameron Archer – Sheffield United secured an £18.5m transfer from Aston Villa for the 21-year-old on August 27. The centre-forward moved to Bramall Lane after impressing on loan to Middlesbrough earlier in 2023. He scored 11 goals during 22 games in the Championship.

Kaine Kesler-Hayden – Plymouth Argyle confirmed on June 29 the signing of the 20-year-old on loan from Aston Villa. The right-back will spend the 23/24 term at the Championship side. He had also spent the first half of 22/23 in the second-tier with Huddersfield Town.

Viljami Sinisalo – Exeter City confirmed the signing of the 21-year-old on a season-long loan from Aston Villa on July 19. The move was a return League One for the Finland goalkeeper. He spent the first half of 22/23 at Burton Albion but only played four times in the third tier.

Morgan Sanson – OGC Nice secured a season-long loan transfer from Aston Villa for the 28-year-old on July 24. It marked another return to his native France after spending the latter half of 22/23 with RC Strasbourg Alsace. He moved to Villa in January 2021 from Marseille.

Louie Barry – Stockport County hired the 20-year-old on loan from Aston Villa for the term on July 28. The winger moved to the League Two team following spells with MK Dons and Salford in 2022/23. He offered a combined three goals and four assists in 53 appearances.

Finn Azaz – Aston Villa announced the 22-year-old had signed a new contract and returned to Plymouth Argyle on loan on August 2. The midfielder will spend the 23/24 Championship campaign with the Pilgrims after helping them win the 22/23 League One title while on loan.

Lamare Bogarde – Bristol Rovers hired the 19-year-old on loan from Aston Villa for the 23/24 season on August 18. It was also his return to the Memorial Stadium having signed with Joey Barton’s side on loan in January. He played 18 League One fixtures in the latter half of 22/23.

Ashley Young – Aston Villa confirmed on May 31 that the 37-year-old was leaving the club at the end of his contract on June 30. The full-back had returned to Villa Park in July 2021 for a second spell in claret-and-blue a decade after leaving. He made a total of 247 appearances.

Jed Steer – The Villans published the club’s released and retained list for the 2023/24 term on June 16 with the 30-year-old among Aston Villa’s first-team players to leave at the end of their contracts on June 30. He joined the Villans in July 2013 but only featured in 36 fixtures.

The Villans published the club’s released and retained list for the 2023/24 season on June 16 with a raft of Aston Villa’s academy players axed. The prospects who left Villa are as follows:

Every loan deal that Aston Villa let expire

Aston Villa did not finish the 2022/23 Premier League season with any players on loan. The Villans had sent their only on-loan players, Ludwig Augustinsson and Jan Bednarek, back to Sevilla and Southampton respectively during January having been signed by Steven Gerrard.

Every academy player Aston Villa have signed

Rico Richards – Aston Villa confirmed their first academy signing of the summer with the 19-year-old on July 3. The attacking midfielder joined the Villans’ Under-21s after leaving West Bromwich Albion at the expiration of his contract. He made his senior debut in August 2021.

Omar Khedr – Aston Villa sealed the arrival of the 17-year-old from Zed FC on August 14. But the Egyptian winger will not join the Villans’ academy until July 1, 2024 once he turns 18. His transfer, against widespread interest, follows the Villans and Zed FC entering a collaboration.

Jamaldeen Jimoh – Aston Villa confirmed the signing of the midfielder from West Bromwich Albion on August 26. The 16-year-old joined the Villans’ Under-18s after honing his trade in the Baggies’ academy. The central talent has played with England at the U16 and U17 levels.

Aidan Borland – Aston Villa added the midfielder to their U18 academy team with a transfer from Celtic on August 26. The Scotland U17 international left the Bhoys having graduated to the Premiership giants’ U18s in 2022. He also represented Scotland at the Under-16 level.
