It’s never a dull day at Aston Villa and the news of Christian Purslow’s departure as CEO on Monday morning surprised many.
Aston Villa announced Christian Purslow’s exit on Twitter after five years of representing the Midlands club as CEO and Director and it seems as though the club aren’t wasting any time in bringing in a new face.
Both in England and in Spain, reports have been rife about Sevilla’s Sporting Director, Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo, known as Monchi, joining the Premier League giants, and it seems as though Unai Emery will be adding another experienced footballing brain to his ever-growing side, as reported by Sky Sports.

Hours after Purslow’s exit, it has been claimed by the British broadcaster that Villa are ‘close to appointing’ Monchi as their new Sporting Director.
It is said that this is all part of a ‘major re-origination’ at the club, with Villa looking to take strides forward after returning to Europe this season.
Unai Emery has worked with Monchi before during their crazy European success at Sevilla, so you would imagine he had a big part to play in the 54-year-old’s imminent arrival.

Villa rightfully backing Emery
Even before Emery could get warm in his seat when he replaced Steven Gerrard, he had enough credit in the bank to talk the talk and then later on walk the walk.
But to the surprise of many, not only has he stabilised a Villa side that was heading towards relegation under Gerrard, but he steam-rolled them towards Europe in a quite incredible run during the second half of the 22/23 Premier League season.
That probably only added further credit to the bank and showed further proof to the Villa owners – Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris – that Emery’s word can be trusted.
And now it will be interesting to see, once Monchi enters the Villa Park building, how the two will fair because these are, once again, exciting times ahead for the club.
Back in January, Villa secured the talents of 30-year-old Spanish left-back Alex Moreno from Real Betis and he has proved to be a diamond of a capture.
That is probably further proof that Villa will probably add more Spanish players to their ranks during the 2023 summer transfer market or, at least, scan the La Liga market for top talents.
