Aston Villa’s interest in signing Moussa Diaby has really caught fire over the last few days, with an agreement close.

The Villains had seen their first bid rejected for the French international last week, as they offered £30million which was swiftly rejected by the German side.

It is believed Unai Emery has identified Diaby as a top target which explains the incredible club record bid which has been fielded now.

The Athletic reported that a second bid worth up to £42.9m has been enough to tempt the Bundesliga outfit into intense negotiations.

This has been reported by RMC Sport who add that Villa have reached an agreement in principle to sign the France international in a deal worth around £43m including bonuses.

This would smash Villa’s record spend and would be a statement signing with the Conference League campaign coming up.

Will Diaby be a success at Villa?

Diaby is set to join Villa as their new winger, likely signalling the end for Leon Bailey, as it represents a vast upgrade on the current winger.

Diaby scored 17 Bundesliga goals last season along with another four in the Europa League.

A brilliant tally which could leave the fee looking like a bargain if the once dubbed ‘lightning’ star can translate it to the Premier League.

Villa however will be wary of avoiding a late transfer coup attempt from Al-Nassr who reportedly set to make their second bid for the winger.

Diaby has the potential to elevate Villa to the next level something Emery is keen to achieve following last years 7th place finish.
