Aston Villa are believed to be close to finalising a deal which would see a partnership agreement reached with Spanish side Real Union.
There is a growing trend around the world in which clubs are developing links for financial gain and for the gain of player development.
This is the case with the likes of Manchester City and the City Group or Chelsea and their affiliates such as Strasbourg.
Brighton has links to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise which most recently has seen Simon Adingra benefit from a loan agreement between the two sides.
Now Aston Villa and their founding company, V Sports, who have previously been partnered with Vitoria Sport Clube, ZED FC and Vissel Kobe, are looking to open a new link and partnership.

Aston Villa ‘close’ to agreement with Real Union
The club that Villa are close to striking a partnership with are Spanish side Real Union who were one of La Liga’s founding sides.
This comes according to El Diario Vasco who claims a deal is close between the parties. The purpose is yet to be disclosed, but it would be safe to assume Union would benefit financially.
The partnership wouldn’t put Union under Sport V control but rather what has been described as a ‘sporting collaboration’, which we assume would be equally beneficial.
The deal is made easier by the fact Real Union’s president is Igor Emery, the brother of Unai Emery, who has recently confirmed that an agreement between Villa and the Spanish side is “close”, according to Birmingham Live.
Who are Real Union Club?
Real Union despite having a badge which bears a striking resemblance with Real Madrid and being among the founding sides in La Liga, currently sits in the third tier of Spanish football.
Currently ninth in the Primera Federacion – Grupo I, Union are stuck and this partnership could benefit them financially enough to see them rise up the table.
The club have won four Spanish Cups, however, the latest triumph was 97 years ago. Also won one Copa RFEF in 2015 according to Transfermarkt.
Villa could see Union as a way to have a foothold in Spain to eventually see young talents breakthrough there with a cheaper deal being done, similarly to how the RB clubs do it.
