Luton Town defender Justin James is attracting interest from a number of Championship and Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa, according to a report.

The Daily Mail have claimed that Villa, Stoke City and Leicester City are willing to bid for the highly-rated 21-year-old, who recently earned promotion from League One.

It is said that James, who is a versatile defender, has one year remaining on his current deal and Luton would be looking for £5 million if they were to part ways with their player.

Dean Smith has had a preference during his managerial career to give youngsters a chance in the first team, therefore, it isn’t a surprise that Villa are keen on James’ services.

At this moment in time, James will be playing second-tier football next season, but if he were to move to Villa and they were to earn promotion then he’ll make the jump up to England’s top-flight.

Ahmed Elmohamady, Neil Taylor, James Bree, Alan Hutton and Kortney Hause have played at full-back under Smith this term, with some earning more game time than others.

For Villa’s play-off final showdown against Derby County at Wembley, Elmohamady and Taylor will more than likely deploy those full-back positions as the Midlands outfit aim to make a return to the promised land.
