Good news coming out of Aston Villa and it’s involving Ezri Konsa.

The 25-year-old has been a key player for Aston Villa since Dean Smith brought him to the club from Brentford in 2019 and he has now signed a new contract.

Aston Villa announced via Twitter on Wednesday that Ezri Konsa has signed a ‘long-term’ contract with the club.

It has been claimed by Birmingham Live journalist John Townley that the contract length is ‘five years’, as he posted on Twitter

This is a deserved deal for the ice-cool centre-half because he has been one of our best players since moving to the Midlands in 2019.

Not only that, but ever since that opening-day mistake against Newcastle United, he has reacted in a brilliant manner and is slowly building a strong partnership with Pau Torres.

How Konsa reacted to his new deal

‘The journey continues,” wrote Konsa on Twitter.

England calling for Konsa

Villa’s promotion-winning boss Dean Smith recently expressed that he is ‘amazed’ Konsa isn’t an England international yet.

We spoke about before how the Charlton Athletic Academy product is an ‘underrated’ figure, and the fact that he has a big fat zero to his name when it comes to England senior appearances, then it just proves it.

With Villa in Europe, hopefully, that will elevate his status even further and perhaps open the eyes of someone like Gareth Southgate.

Even if he doesn’t, it seems as though Southgate will leave after Euro 2024, and if that happens, then it will probably increase Konsa’s chances of earning that England call with another manager.

Until then, fans have to wait for Harry Maguire to earn one start from now until the end of the season, yet he will still find himself on that plane to Germany.
