Manchester United winger Ashley Young stated on Twitter that it is ‘good to see’ Aston Villa make a return to the Premier League.

Dean Smith’s side beat Derby County 2-1 in the Championship play-off final on Monday afternoon at Wembley to end their three-year absence from England’s top-flight.

It has been a remarkable few months for Villa, who have climbed from mid-table in the Championship into the top-six and now a return to the promised land.

After Villa’s promotion was confirmed, former Holte End favourite Young, posted this message to the club on his personal Twitter account:

It has been a rollercoaster ride for the Villa Park faithful during these past 12 months because they have gone from near financial capitulation to winning a £170m game.

Only last May, they had lost their play-off final showdown to Fulham, but somehow, the players, staff and recently appointed manager have turned things around.

Smith replaced Steve Bruce in the Villa Park dugout in October when the club opted to sack the four-time promotion winner.

At the time, the decision may have raised a few eyebrows, but the decision to appoint Smith as manager has paid off and worked wonders for the club who will now be planning for life in England’s top-tier.
