Alan Shearer has named Aston Villa star, Douglas Luiz in his Premier League team of the season and has explained his reasoning for doing so.
It has been a great season for Aston Villa, there is no doubt about that. This currently sees Aston Villa sitting in second place at the time of writing.
The work that Unai Emery has done can not be underestimated as he has taken the club from a relegation battle to a Champions League hunt.
One of the main pillars to the success of the Spaniard has been the Villans’ form at Villa Park where they haven’t lost since February last year.
This work has seen many players step up and become Premier League stars with Ollie Watkins being one of the main names. With nine goals and eight assists according to FotMob, he has been quite superb.
With all this being said, there has been plenty of praise levelled at Villa and their players which has happened again this week.
Alan Shearer on ‘pivotal’ Douglas Luiz
One of the standout stars for the Villans this campaign has been Douglas Luiz who has become one of Villa’s most important players.
So far this campaign he has six goals and three assists, according to FotMob, which is great for a central midfielder.

As a result of this, Premier League all-time scorer, Alan Shearer has included the Brazilian in his Team of the Season so far. This was done for the official Premier League website.
On his inclusion of Luiz, he said: “A brilliant midfielder who has been pivotal to Aston Villa’s success this season, with his goals at home particularly invaluable.”
Given that he signed for Villa back in 2019 for £15m it is amazing to think how great of a player he has become.
In the past year, he has formed a superb partnership with Boubacar Kamara in the middle of the park for the Villans.
There’s a certain elegance to the midfield at Villa Park right now which isn’t only effective but passes any eye test when watching them play. The ability of the Frenchman to form a shield in front of the back four allows Luiz to flourish further forward.
This has allowed him to get more involved when it comes to scoring and assisting goals for the Villans. It is safe to say that this has benefitted Emery’s side so far this campaign.
