Why Tyrone Mings and John McGinn got the loudest cheers from the Aston Villa fans v Wolves

To be hit with three ACL injuries in one season is pretty devastating, but it’s what Aston Villa have had to face this season.

Emiliano Buendia, Tyrone Mings and Boubacar Kamara have been the unfortunate trio to suffer that fate.

On Saturday, Aston Villa secured a 2-0 win over Wolves to further boost their chances of playing Champions League football next season.

Moussa Diaby was the star of the show for Aston Villa because it was his outstanding goal in the first half that got the ball rolling for Unai Emery’s men.

But it’s fair to say that another duo – Tyrone Mings and John McGinn – perhaps stole the show instead.

Mings was watching from the stands, alongside his captain, with the latter currently serving the second of his three-match suspension.

In the first half, the duo were put on the big screen at Villa Park to the loud cheers of the home support, as posted by Sky Sports.

Mings’ name was then chanted across the ground, with both players having a big smile on their faces.

Given the difficult eight or so months the England international has gone through, it’s great to see him in good spirits and edging closer to a return because the cheer for him was probably louder than anything that happened on the day.

Return for injured players

If Mings does return this season, then it seems as though it’s going to be right at the very end.

Buendia seems to be slightly ahead of his teammate because he is already out on the ground training on his own.

But, either way, given that ACL injuries can become really problematic to recover from, at least fans know the duo will be back and ready for pre-season.

That’s what matters most because they, along with Kamara, will feel like new signings next season.
