Aston Villa have become one of the most improved teams in England’s top flight over the last few years.

From hovering above the Premier League relegation zone under Steven Gerrard to reaching the Champions League under Unai Emery.

It has been some rise by Aston Villa and it has been well deserved with no signs that the team is going to stop any time soon.

Emery has been the brains behind it all, but before he walked through the doors of Bodymoor Heath, everyone knew what they were getting themselves into.

He hasn’t won European trophy after European trophy just like that, the Spaniard is one of the most demanding and highly-detailed coaches in the game.

And more of that is coming to light, with certain details about how the Midlands side prepares for matches.

Given that Villa are playing midweek matches every other week, you wonder where the management gets the energy and time from to prepare in such a manner.

But Emery finds a way and, it has been described by those behind-the-scenes at Villa as ‘unbelievably detailed’, as reported by The Athletic.

It is said that there are ‘multiple meetings on the day of matches’ to ensure that the players are drilled the responsibilities they have.

Aston Villa’s pre-match preparations under Unai Emery

‘Team analysis at Villa before games is described by sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to protect relationships, as “unbelievably detailed” and sessions often last well over an hour,’ wrote The Athletic.

‘On top of that, there are multiple meetings on the day of matches to drill the layers’ responsibilities into them.’

Aston Villa’s gruelling fixture list

Villa had a very interesting summer transfer window, with mixed emotions all round because some players had to leave due to financial reasons, whilst Emery was also able to lure and purchase top targets.

It’s high time that Emery, aside from when there are injuries, starts to use his squad and refresh the XI because the fixture schedule is only going to get tougher.

Thankfully, Villa have made a 100% start to the Champions League, so that helps ease the pressure.

But Emery will be well aware that, with only a few defeats here and there, then the pressure will really start to mount up on the squad.
