Aston Villa midfielder Amadou Onana was left stunned by the away support in their 2-1 win over Leicester City on Saturday afternoon.
Aston Villa secured a hard-earned three points on the road at Leicester City as they bounced back from their 2-0 loss against Arsenal last weekend.
Amadou Onana scored for the second away game running, with the Belgian netting the opener in the contest.
The 23-year-old has been deployed in a more attacking role under Unai Emery, where he’s allowed to drift into the box and make an impact in the final third.
Onana has so far used his energy and athleticism to position himself in the right place to get on the end of a cross and he’s proving to be an invaluable weapon for Emery.
Now, after winning in front of a packed-out away end, the powerful midfielder has commented on the travelling support.

Amadou Onana responds to Aston Villa fans who chanted his name
In the early stages of his Villa career, Onana is becoming a fan favourite and it’s clear to see why.
The midfielder would drive through brick walls for the team and he’s popped up with two important goals already this season.
Villa supporters were heard chanting his name in the away end throughout the game and at the end of the match, they serenaded the Belgian star with a song.
Onana said that the feeling of hearing the fans chanting his name was ‘special’ and explained how their incredible support played a part in the victory.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Onana said: “First of all, thanks to the fans, because this is quite special to me, the fact they’re singing my name like that at the end of the game, it means a lot to me so thanks to them. Obviously, it’s never easy to get an away win but thanks to their support as well, we were able to make it.”
Emery has transformed Villa into a difficult side to beat away from home while being backed by thousands in claret and blue every week does help.
Aston Villa’s away record under Unai Emery
Since Emery took charge of his first away game at Aston Villa, only Manchester City and Arsenal have won more matches on their travels than the 16 Villa have managed under the Spaniard.
That is largely down to how Emery sets his side up; difficult to beat through the thirds and a threat with their pace on the counter attack.
Villa can do both sides of the game well by either controlling possession or soaking up pressure and hitting teams on the break.
This is why only the two big hitters, Arsenal and Man City, have more away wins than the Villans since October 2022 and long may it continue.
