Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn seemed to have really upset Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes on Sunday.

Scotland faced Portugal in their UEFA Nations League encounter in Lisbon, with Manchester United’s marmite-like figure complaining and moaning like he always does.

Cristiano Ronaldo was the hero again for Portugal, with the home side coming from behind to secure a late 2-1 win and break Scottish hearts.

McGinn started the game, but the Aston Villa captain was subbed off right at the end, in what was a cagey game dominated by Roberto Martinez’s side.

Portugal went into this match after opening their UEFA Nations League account by beating Croatia on Thursday, with you know who scoring the winner, whilst Scotland suffered a late 3-2 defeat to Poland.

Scott McTominay opened the scoring for his team early in the first half, before Portugal pushed and pushed, before Fernandes scored after 54 minutes.

Understandably so, the game became more aggressive, with the away side holding on for a point and trying to do everything they could to get out of their half.

Villa fans will know too well that McGinn is brilliant at winning ground duels, being aggressive in a tackle and using his body to win those challenges, as well as win fouls.

With ten minutes left on the clock, McGinn was protecting the ball inside Portugal’s half when he was surrounded by opposition bodies, including Fernandes.

The Manchester United man proceeded to foul the midfielder and the on-field referee awarded a free-kick, but Fernandes was not happy.

He screamed and threw his hands in frustration – which resulted in him going into the referee’s book – before he let rip at McGinn, as posted by ITV Sport.

Neil McCann stated on commentary: “He’s not happy with John McGinn. I don’t know what he is moaning about. He just kicks into the back of John McGinn first.”

Aston Villa v Manchester United

Fans won’t have to wait too long for McGinn and Fernandes to re-unite again because Manchester United visit Villa Park on October 6.

Villa will have a Champions League game against Bayern Munich days before, so it’s going to be a huge week for the club.
