Unai Emery has received some ‘brilliant news’ as one of his long-term Aston Villa absentees is closing in on a return to action.
For Unai Emery and Aston Villa, a productive start to the transfer window has turned into a frustrating end.
Whilst other Premier League clubs have been flexing their financial muscles on deadline day, Villa haven’t been able to do so, as spending further cash would mean breaching PSR.
Emery wanted to offload three of his players, in particular Diego Carlos, to sign Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida.
But failure to sell the Brazilian, at this stage, saw RB Leipzig swoop in for Villa’s top target Geertruida, with the 24-year-old signing for the Bundesliga giants.
It’s been a disappointing day on the transfer front however, ahead of the Villans trip to Leicester City, a positive injury update was delivered.

Tyrone Mings returns to full training ahead of Leicester City clash
Aston Villa centre-back Tyrone Mings suffered a horrific ACL injury on the opening day of last season.
The 31-year-old experienced a long and hard road to recovery but 384 days after going off injured in the defeat to Newcastle, Mings is now back in full training, as per Birmingham Mail journalist John Townley.
Townley reports that Villa are hopeful the Englishman could be available for selection as early as next month, in what is a huge boost to Emery.
Following the injuries to Carlos and Matty Cash, the Spanish tactician is light on options defensively, therefore seeing the former Bournemouth stalwart return to training will be music to the ears of many.
What Tyrone Mings has said ahead of Aston Villa return
Mings is one of four senior centre-backs at the club, including Carlos, Ezri Konsa and Pau Torres.
Last season, he was forced to watch on from the sidelines as Villa finished in the top four and qualified for the Champions League.
To go through the mental and physical pain of his recovery while watching his teammates flourish will have been hard.
However, now he’s returned to training, the end of the road is near and he’ll hope to return to the pitch very soon, perhaps in Europe’s elite competition.
Speaking to Villa TV earlier this month, Mings spoke of his excitement, saying: “I’m super excited to get back playing, to see what the season holds.
“I’m so proud of the players to finish fourth in the Premier League and to be part of it this season will be a special, special moment.
“What an amazing turnaround and trajectory the club have been on and will continue to be on. The manager has been first class, it’s so exciting as a player, for a player thinking of coming to Villa, it’s such an easy sell. Everything is gearing towards being a successful period in Villa’s history.
“I can’t speak highly enough of the manager and his staff while I’ve been injured. They’ve been absolutely first class, so thankful for the support they’ve given me, the messages from the fans.
“I’m just looking forward to getting back on the pitch and contributing to successful times here.”
It will be emotional for everyone associated with the football club once Mings is back in action and gaining his experienced head in defence is only a positive.
