An odd penalty condemned Aston Villa to a 1-0 defeat against Club Brugge in the Champions League.
Villa put in a poor performance in the Champions League on Wednesday night as they were unable to continue their 100% in the competition.
While the Villa players were slammed for their performance against Club Brugge, one incident took the limelight.
In the second half, Tyrone Mings picked up the ball after a goal kick which resulted in a penalty being awarded for handball.
This was ultimately the deciding factor of the game with Villa unable to find an equaliser after the spot-kick was converted.
Unai Emery believes Tyrone Mings’ penalty mistake was ‘strange’ in Champions League defeat

Mings was condemned for his ‘stupidity’ for giving away the penalty. The centre-back was making his first European start after missing their entire Europa Conference League campaign and the start of this season with an ACL injury.
However, his performance was one to forget. On top of the penalty, Mings was perhaps lucky to not be given his marching orders as he was already on a yellow card at the time of the incident.
At full-time, Unai Emery gave his verdict on the incident which condemned Villa to a third successive defeat in all competitions.
The Villa manager simply said: “It’s very very strange this mistake. But it’s football.”
Tyrone Mings needs to quickly move on from Club Brugge defeat

On his day, Mings is easily one of Villa’s best players. On his return to the starting line-up, Mings was praised for his performance in the 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.
The centre-back is clearly still getting used to competitive football after spending such a long time out with an ACL injury.
While his mistake was no doubt stupid, plenty of other Villa players did not step up to ensure they came away with a result in Belgium.
Villa fans will need to stay patient with the centre-back over the proceeding weeks to ensure he is nursed back to his best.
