Unai Emery has provided an update on Ollie Watkins’ fitness after there were fears that the Aston Villa striker had picked up an injury in the 3-0 victory.
The Villains dominated in their first Champions League game in 41 years as they overcame the Swiss champions in Bern.
Youri Tielemans and Jacob Ramsey got the goals in the first half before Amadou Onana got another in the second period.
With Villa set to face Wolves on the weekend, it was another potential confidence boost going into the derby.
However, there was a potential scare just after the hour mark when Watkins came off the field, sparking fears of another potential injury.
Ollie Watkins ‘okay’ despite injury fears against Young Boys

Despite it being a near-perfect game in Bern, one fear grew amongst the travelling Villa Park faithful.
Star man Watkins, who saw a goal controversially disallowed, was brought off just after the hour mark for Jhon Duran.
However, eagle-eyed fans may have spotted the striker on the bench with an icepack, striking fears that he may not be fit for the West Midlands derby against Wolves on Saturday.
After the game, Emery was able to ease these potential concerns as he confirmed that the Watkins substitution was solely tactical.
“He’s working well, he played well and I decided to change him like another player,” Emery said after Villa’s victory at the Wankdorf Stadium. “He’s okay.”

Ollie Watkins injury update a big boost for Aston Villa vs Wolves

While Villa are not short of options up top for the Wolves clash, the potential loss of Watkins would have no doubt been blow.
However, it is now likely that he will be at least on the bench to face the Old Gold on the weekend.
The England international’s firepower combined with that of Duran’s, as well as the form of Morgan Rogers and Tielemans should be enough to earn all three points at Villa Park.
Continuing the club’s form in the Premier League could be crucial this campaign after their Champions League games, and against teams out of form, Villa simply must take advantage.
