Former Manchester United star, Roy Keane has suggested that Aston Villa defender, Diego Carlos was lucky to be not penalised against Tottenham Hotspur.
A first Premier League win on the road since September finally came for Aston Villa as they secured a 2-1 win against Spurs.
Despite going 1-0 down in the first half, Unai Emery’s side were able to come back and secure yet another Tottenham Hotspur stadium win.
Three points were secured thanks to goals from Pau Torres and Ollie Watkins. This now sees Villa move into the top four, just two points off top spot. With Bournemouth, Manchester City and Arsenal coming up, it is a season-defining few weeks for the Villans.
With all that being said, things could have been so much different if one decision had gone the way of the home side.

What has been said about Diego Carlos?
Very early in the first half, there was a moment where Spurs were demanding of a penalty. Bryan Gil went down to what looked like a nothing moment.
On closer inspection, it appeared that the Brazilian had landed an elbow on the Spanish wideman inside the box. VAR looked at the potential foul but deemed it not a clear and obvious error and play moved on, much to Spurs’ annoyance.
Discussing this at halftime on Sky Sports, there were multiple calls, suggesting that it should have been a penalty.
On that point, Kelly Cates asked: “Is there a shout there for a Spurs penalty?”
The trio of Karen Carney, Roy Keane and Michael Dawson all weighed in with their opinions. The former England women’s international said: “He’s absolutely elbowed him straight into the face there. I’m not sure what he’s doing.”
Adding to this, former Manchester United star, Keane said: “Silly boy. He must look and see he’s obviously not got any chance of getting to the ball but once you raise your elbow, very very lucky.”
It is safe to say that there was no world where Gil gets to the ball. This as it is already in Martinez’s hands at the time. This is what may have skewed the referee and VAR’s opinion on the matter as it was waved away quickly.
With that being said, Dawson said: “I can’t believe it. He puts his elbow straight into Bryan Gil’s face there. Why is Diego Carlos getting involved in this, there’s no need. He is lucky.”
The feeling among the pundits was pretty unanimous. It seemed as if on any other day a penalty would be given. With that being said, Villa fans won’t care as they have the win and three points.
