Is Rodri ever going to stop scoring against Aston Villa?

Villa fans must now be sick of the sight of him because on Wednesday night the Manchester City star scored goal number five against the Midlands club.

It was a deserved 4-1 defeat for Unai Emery’s side, but it needs to be put into context, a whole host of players were missing, in fact, you can make a squad out of them.

It’s deflating because it dents Aston Villa’s Champions League hopes, with destiny now back into the hands of fifth-placed Tottenham, who are two points behind, but have a game in hand.

When looking at the season as a whole, just like the game at the Etihad, it needs to be put into context and the team need to be respected.

Three ACL injuries, yet Emery still has Villa in fourth and in with a chance of winning the Europa Conference League.

Rodri certainly acknowledged what has been cooking at Villa Park this season, as he stated ‘we have seen what this team has done this season and big credit to them’, as he told Premier League Productions.

Yes, the defeat to Man City is a morale-sapping one, but it’s time to get back on the bike and react.

Aston Villa under Unai Emery

“We have seen what this team have done this season and a big credit for them,” said Rodri.

“They beat a lot of important teams this year, to be fair. We knew how difficult it was this game. It was one of the great and best games this season so far, in terms of, from the first minute, we showed that we wanted it.”

Aston Villa v Brentford

One thing Villa have done very well all season long is react well to defeats. The team hasn’t lost back-to-back games this term.

It would be a massive blow if that were to happen now because we are deep into the run-in.

The one positive Villa fans will be hoping for is key players returning to action for the clash against Brentford, including Ollie Watkins.

John McGinn is back after his three-match suspension and it also needs to be noted that Douglas Luiz needs to avoid a yellow card against Brentford, or else, he will get suspended for two games.
