Pundit tells American TV what he’s heard about Unai Emery amid Aston Villa’s struggles

This is Unai Emery’s biggest test since becoming Aston Villa manager.

For large parts, it has gone very well for the Spaniard and he has won over many hearts since replacing Steven Gerrard in the Villa Park dugout.

But Aston Villa are winless in six matches in all competitions and the signs suggest that the dark clouds might continue to hover above.

Over the weekend, Villa recorded a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace – falling behind twice and Youri Tielemans also missing a penalty at 1-1.

Everything seems to be going wrong, including the goals flooding in at the wrong end – 19 in total so far – as well as the players further up the field not being ruthless enough.

One thing is for sure, Emery will continue to get the support from the Villa Park fanbase and he is also being backed by pundits from America.

Aston Villa told Unai Emery is the ‘hardest working manager’ ever

When Emery first joined the club, everyone was told about the long and detailed hours he puts into preparing for games.

The seemingly draining meetings that last over an hour and how he doesn’t miss a spot.

But former Premier League player Robbie Mustoe, speaking on American network NBC Sports, thinks the good times will come back for Aston Villa.

From what Mustoe has heard about Emery, he claimed that he is the ‘hardest working manager’ there has ever been.

“Villa away is a difficult game for Crystal Palace,” said Mustoe “The same could be said about Villa (continued to be concerned about them).

“I read a really long piece about Unai Emery and this international break where he normally goes away. I think he is the hardest-working manager there could ever be given the stuff we hear about him. It’s 12+ hours a day in the week. He is continuing to work hard to get the team back on track.

“It’s kind of a blip for Villa. They have come such a long way. We knew this season, with the extra competitions, the Champions League again this week, but we all know he is a great manager. We know there are some really good players there. He will get them back on track. It’s an annoying blip. They want to be closer to the top four right now. I think he will get them back on track.”

Aston Villa’s upcoming fixtures

This is where the men will be separated from the boys and the currently jam-packed Premier League table will start to split up.

So far, only three points separate Villa and Chelsea in third – they visit the London club next in the Premier League.

But before that, it’s Villa taking on Juventus in the Champions League, including a trip to Germany to take on RB Leipzig on December 10.

In between that, it’s Premier League clash on top of Premier League clash and it’s not going to be easy.
