Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa saw his difficult week continue as the Englishman’s error saw Spurs take full control at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon, with Sky Sports reporter Dan Khan commenting on his performance.

Aston Villa were dealt a damning blow in their ambition to finish in the top four as Unai Emery watched his side lose 4-0 at Villa Park to Tottenham.

All eyes were on Birmingham as the clubs in fourth and fifth place in the Premier League went head to head at a decisive point in the season, with Spurs hunting revenge on Villa after losing at home to Emery’s side in November.

Revenge is exactly what Ange Postecoglou got over the Villans, as his fired-up squad walked away from the Midlands with three points and a dominating 4-0 victory.

How Aston Villa lost against Tottenham

Villa looked far from their best from the kickoff, as Emery made the questionable decision to sway away from his favoured 4-4-2 setup, playing a back three and moving Leon Bailey away from the wide channel.

Despite all of the visitors’ pressure, the hosts managed to get to halftime at 0-0 with many inside Villa Park holding out the hope that their club would find their feet after the interval.

Unfortunately, that couldn’t have been further from the case as goals from James Maddison, Brennan Johnson, Heung-min Son and Timo Werner saw the Villans get blown away 4-0 at home.

It was Emery’s first loss to Spurs during his Premier League career, with his side falling apart as soon as the North Londoners claimed their opener, not helped by John McGinn’s dismissal in the 65th minute.

One pivotal moment was the second goal, which marked the opening of the floodgates, a goal that Ezri Konsa found himself at fault for.

What was said about Ezri Konsa during defeat to Spurs

Minutes after Maddison’s opener, Spurs doubled their lead as Konsa’s pass to Youri Tielemans was short, seeing Dejan Kulusevski pounce on the error to inspire the attack.

It was Johnson who finished the quick-fire move for the Lilywhites, with Konsa continuing his difficult week after being sent off against Ajax on Thursday.

During the fixture, Sky Sports News reporter, Dan Khan, commented on the Englishman’s error, branding it a “poor” yet rare mistake for the 26-year-old.

“For the second, it’s just a poor mistake by Konsa – who has rarely done that season – but this Spurs side will almost always make you pay if you give them chances like that.”

It’s been a tricky week for Konsa, who has recently returned from injury after suffering a knee sprain against Sheffield United early last month.

The main focus for the defender will be to rediscover his form and put the woes of this week behind him, as Villa must bounce back quickly to return their focus to the top four.
