Player ratings for Aston Villa vs Everton

Aston Villa responded to last week’s thrashing by Newcastle United by handing out a hammering of their own to Everton.

Goals from John McGinn, Douglas Luiz, Leon Bailey, and Jhon Duran saw Aston Villa cruise to a 4-0 victory over Everton at Villa Park.

Unai Emery’s side were in complete control throughout the match, and might have won by an even greater margin had they felt the need to go up through the gears more often.

Everton were absolutely abject. However, the Villans won’t care about that, and will simply enjoy having earned their first points of the Premier League season in such emphatic fashion.

Here’s how the Aston Villa players rated against Everton:

Emiliano Martinez – 7

Didn’t have much to do, but made one excellent save to deny Neal Maupay.

Matty Cash – 7

Got up the right flank well to support the frequent Aston Villa attacks.

Ezri Konsa – 6.5

Largely untroubled and looked comfortable throughout.

Pau Torres – 7

Got caught out once to allow Arnaut Danjuma in behind for one of Everton’s few chances, but otherwise was composed and brave in possession, progressing the ball well.

Lucas Digne – 7.5

Delivered a series of dangerous crosses into the Everton box throughout the match.

Boubacar Kamara – 7

Alongside Luiz, dominated the midfield battle, and enjoyed galloping forward at times.

Douglas Luiz – 8

Dictated the game. Shut down Everton attempts at counter-attacking and dispatched his penalty coolly.

Leon Bailey – 7.5

His tricky and inventive self. Not everything worked, but he was a handful for the Everton defence throughout and was rewarded with a good goal.

Moussa Diaby – 8.5

The best player on the pitch. Only a brilliant Jordan Pickford save denied him a sensational goal. Diaby pulled the strings and pulled Everton apart at times. He looks like £52 million well-spent so far.

John McGinn – 8

Attacked with enthusiasm and opened the scoring with a brilliantly timed run into the edge of the six-yard box.

Ollie Watkins – 6.5

Worked hard and made plenty of encouraging runs, but was ultimately a bit unlucky in front of goal.
