In the light of making his Aston Villa debut on Saturday against Sheffield United, January signing Morgan Rogers has reacted to his first appearance for the Villans.

Aston Villa’s 5-0 win over Sheffield United was widely celebrated as Unai Emery’s side moved up to fourth in the table, setting a number of records on the day.

The result at Bramall Lane not only represented Villa’s biggest away win since 2008, but also marked the first time that the club had registered five different goal-scorers in 15 years.

Ollie Watkins became the first player in Europe’s top five leagues to reach 10+ goals and 10+ assists this season however, the striker wasn’t the only individual to leave South Yorkshire gleaming.

On deadline day, the Villans welcomed 21-year-old Morgan Rogers back to the Midlands from Middlesbrough, paying a fee of £15m for the former West Brom youth forward.

The versatile attacker, who was previously a member of Manchester City’s academy, was granted his Premier League debut against the Blades, entering the fold in the 81st minute to get his first taste of action in claret and blue.

After his debut, the 2002-born ace took to Twitter to share his thoughts on making his first appearance in the top flight, dubbing the moment “a dream come true”.

Speaking prior to his first game for the Villans, the manager was full of praise for Rogers, who is expected to play a considerable role in the Spaniard’s squad going forward.

“His potential is big, really big”.

“We added one player in the squad who can play as an 8, a 10 or sometimes as a striker. His skills will be important for us, he’s ready to play.”

The arrival of Rogers comes at an important time for the squad, who lost Jhon Duran for “weeks” after the 20-year-old striker sustained a hamstring blow against Everton last month.

With Ollie Watkins standing alone as the fit option to lead the line at present, the 21-year-old could have a significant shot at accumulating some critical game time during what is a busy period for Villa.

Rogers arrived in searing form from Boro, having contributed 16 goals and assists in all competitions in the first half of the 2023/24 calendar, reinforcing the threat he could bring to Emery’s front line.

Despite only having four touches on his debut, the versatile forward used one of his few involvements to have a shot on goal to showcase his hunger to get the ball rolling in his new surroundings.
