Aston Villa players took to social media to celebrate their late draw against Liverpool on Monday night, and it wasn’t just Jhon Duran who attracted attention.

Villa Park bid farewell to the 2023/24 season on Monday night as Aston Villa earned a draw in their final home game of the year against Liverpool.

A win would have confirmed Villa’s spot in the Champions League next term, making the atmosphere inside the stadium even more electrifying, however, the hosts weren’t able to secure their European dreams on the night.

Emi Martinez got the game off to a horrible start by scoring an own goal, before Youri Tielemans got one back to spare his embarrassment.

Goals from Cody Gakpo and Jarell Quansah saw Liverpool retake the lead and hold a two-goal cushion up to the 85th minute, before Jhon Duran saved the day, scoring a brace to earn the hosts a point.

The Colombian received a lot of praise for his two-goal cameo however, he wasn’t the only Villa star to be congratulated for his display against the Reds.

Tielemans returned to action with a goal against Liverpool, scoring in the 12th minute to cross off Martinez’s early blunder.

The Belgian had been absent with injury for Villa’s previous three games in all competitions and showed Unai Emery just what his side had been missing with a strike to net his second of the Premier League season.

After the game, the 27-year-old took to Instagram to celebrate his goal, return from injury and Villa’s draw, with the caption, ‘First Villa Park goal and 1 point more towards our objective! Up The Villa’

Tielemans was met with well wishes from teammates Moussa Diaby, Lucas Digne and Diego Carlos in the comments, with Morgan Rogers offering a two-word message for the midfielder.

The injured Villa star commented, ‘He’s back’ on the Belgium international’s post, showing enthusiasm over Tielemans’ return in what has been an impressive first season in claret and blue for the former Leicester City whiz.

Youri Tielemans showed Unai Emery what he was missing against Liverpool

It was almost the perfect return for Tielemans, who would have wanted to mark his recovery from injury with a win against Liverpool.

The Belgian showed just what Villa had been missing in his absence, providing a creative asset from midfield to dictate the tempo.

His presence allowed John McGinn to push upfield as he pulled the strings alongside Douglas Luiz, popping up in the perfect position to score his goal in the first half.

It’s a shame that the summer arrival was unavailable for Villa’s previous three games, where his presence could have made the difference, although, the most important thing is that the 27-year-old is back fit and firing for the Villans.
