Morgan Rogers hails Ezri Konsa after Aston Villa star helps England beat Finland

Back to club football this weekend for Aston Villa and Ezri Konsa.

The 26-year-old has to be wrapped in cotton wool because of Aston Villa’s lack of ready-made options at centre-back.

Pau Torres and Konsa are the starting centre-backs right now, with Diego Carlos, who has already picked up a small injury this season, as the back-up option.

Tyrone Mings has returned to Villa training, but fans need to understand that he has been out of action for more than a year and it would be unfair to rely on him even a little bit.

Either way, it would have been a heart-in-mouth moment when Konsa went down injured during England’s 2-0 UEFA Nations League win over Finland on Tuesday night at Wembley.

It happened in the second half and Konsa was then subbed off five minutes later, with Aston Villa supporters frantically worried about his situation.

But interim England manager Lee Casley has calmed the situation down and there isn’t anything to worry about ahead of a packed schedule for the team.

Konsa took to Instagram to state that he was ‘happy to get some mins and put on an England shirt’, whilst also congratulating captain Harry Kane on his 100th international cap.

In the comments section of Konsa’s IG post, Morgan Rogers lauded his teammate, with Everton visiting Villa Park at the weekend.

Morgan Rogers praises Ezri Konsa on England duty

‘A good win tonight,’ wrote Konsa. ‘Happy to get some mins and put the England shirt on. Congrats Harry Kane on 100 caps’.

Rogers reacted in the comments section by calling his club teammate ’the best, man’, with Ian Maatsen sending a heart emoji and ex-Villa man Moussa Diaby doing the same.

Tyrone Mings and Diego Carlos as centre-back options

For the past two seasons, Villa have been very unfortunate that their two centre-backs – Carlos and Mings – have suffered season-ending injuries in August.

It hasn’t helped anyone’s cause, but Emery has soldiered on and delivered European football for the team.

Villa will be in Champions League action next week and you just wonder when Emery will introduce players like Mings, as well as the returning Boubacar Kamara.

There are a total of seven games from now until the next international window in October, with Villa also playing League One side Wycombe in the EFL Cup and you feel this is the perfect chance for these players to get some minutes.
