Aston Villa managed to rescue a draw against Bournemouth as a late Ollie Watkins header levelled things up. Here are our player ratings…
It was a quick start to the game for Aston Villa who looked to make things happen early on. Things didn’t quite go to plan in that respect.
The home side took the lead after just ten minutes as Antoine Semenyo made the most of a poor Diego Carlos pass.
It didn’t take long for the Villans to be back in the game as Leon Bailey cut inside and curled home a beauty. The Jamaican left Neto no chance with his effort.
The turnaround looked to be complete as Carlos made amends as he swept a loose ball into the net. After a lengthy VAR check, it was ruled that Lucas Digne was offside.
That was how it stayed until just minutes after halftime when Dominic Solanke rolled two Villa defenders to convert. This put the hosts in the lead and this is how it stayed until very late on when Ollie Watkins brilliantly flicked home a Moussa Diaby cross.

After a bright start, Unai Emery’s side almost fell away and didn’t really look like winning the game. Bar a deflected Jhon Duran effort which came off the post, they created very little in the second half until the equaliser.
A positive point in the end. Here are our player ratings…
Aston Villa player ratings
Emi Martinez- 8/10
A sensational performance from Emi Martinez to say the least. It would have been a completely different score without the Argentine between the Villa sticks. The World Number One does it once again.
Ezri Konsa- 7/10
The Englishman made one of the best last-ditch tackles in recent memory and was generally very good on the day. Once again playing out of position in right back, he was still able to show his quality.
Diego Carlos- 4/10
Although he did score his offside goal which was unfortunate, you can’t legislate for the cost of the mistake he made. Giving the ball away right on the edge of the box cost a goal and he wasn’t amazing past that. For the £26m he cost you would definitely expect better.
Pau Torres- 5/10
Spun in circles by Dominic Solanke for his goal, not Pau Torres’ finest moment. Again, like Carlos, he wasn’t great, wasn’t bad so an average score on these player ratings.
Lucas Digne- 6/10
A solid performance from the Frenchman but he just couldn’t make anything count on the day. Nothing special but did his job.
John McGinn- 5/10
Another uncharacteristically quiet game from John McGinn who didn’t do much, if anything of note. He came off with 25 minutes to go which kind of summed up his performance.
Youri Tielemans- 6/10
Filling in for Boubacar Kamara is no easy task. Although he was good on the ball he had a few errors in him. Nothing particularly wrong with his performance just another nothing showing.
Douglas Luiz- 6/10
Douglas Luiz was good in patches but had a few lax moments which let Bournemouth in. Probably should have scored and the game would have been so different. An average score on these player ratings for the Brazilian.
Leon Bailey 7/10
A superb goal from the Jamaican wasn’t enough to spur on his side to secure a win but he tried his best. A well deserved start and he definitely made the most of it.
Nicolo Zaniolo- 4/10
It just isn’t going right for Nicolo Zaniolo at Aston Villa. He didn’t really have anything go right whether that be passing or shooting, it was all rather wayward. Coming off at halftime summed him up, to say the least.
Ollie Watkins- 8/10
The man who saved the day for the Villans. A goal and an assist rescued a point for Emery’s men such has been the quality of his season. Well deserving of a great score on the player ratings.
