Aston Villa host Nottingham Forest on Saturday, looking to cement their place within the Premier League’s top four.

Tottenham’s defeat to Wolverhampton saw Unai Emery’s men jump back into the Champions League places after their impressive 2-1 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Despite Villa’s excellent league position, Emery’s side have suffered three home losses in a row, with Newcastle United, Chelsea and Manchester United enjoying their trips to the West Midlands.

Talking ahead of the clash against Nuno Espirito Santo’s team, John McGinn has highlighted Villa’s concerning home form.

John McGinn addresses Aston Villa’s ‘strange’ home form

In an interview with Villa’s official website, the 29-year-old knows the “strange” home results must be eradicated.

“They’re a very good team full of talented players, with a coach who’s well-respected in the league,” he said.

“They’ve got a battle of their own going on. They’ll be coming to make it difficult for us to get the three points, which they badly need too.

“We need to get back on the horse at home and get that run going again. We need to make Villa Park a fortress again.

“Consecutive defeats at home is strange for us and something we need to eradicate quickly.”

He added: “There’s been a lot of questions about our away form this season, and we’ve now managed to find a solution to that.

“The run we went on at Villa Park was tremendous and it was a great place to be for everyone.

“If we can perform on the pitch, there’s no reason we can’t go on a run like before and win 15 or 16 in a row.”

Aston Villa can capitalise on Tottenham absence

With Tottenham not in action this weekend, Aston Villa have an excellent chance to put some distance between themselves and some of their rivals.

Realistically, these are the types of games that have to be won for a top-four spot to be secured.

On McGinn’s comments, Villa needs to rectify their recent home form. Their performances at Villa Park, for the most part, have been impeccable.

And a third straight Premier League home defeat mustn’t be on the agenda this weekend.

McGinn’s form has been hugely impressive, and the Scot eased the blow of Boubacar Kamara’s injury with an excellent performance in West London last weekend.
