I watched Aston Villa star prove v Bournemouth why he is undroppable under Unai Emery

Aston Villa were only seconds away from making it a perfect week for the team.

But Unai Emery has taken the club to such heights that, after Villa beat Fulham and then Bologna in the Champions League, there is still a feeling of deflation at the end of it.

For large parts of the game, Aston Villa were the better side against Bournemouth, but they shot themselves in the foot right at the death.

For the final ten minutes, the team continued to go long and give away pointless fouls, all on the left-hand side, and in the end, it cost them.

Why nobody said anything to Emi Martinez is beyond anyone because it continued to happen again and again without any change.

It’s simple, that should have been three points for the Midlands side and they let a dangerous Bournemouth team stay in the fight and they got their just reward.

Yes, Emery’s side are in third place and they will remain in the Champions League places regardless of what happens during the rest of the weekend matches, but it’s another missed opportunity.

Ezri Konsa is undroppable under Unai Emery

Ezri Konsa didn’t deserve to be on the losing side, and as per, but he strolled through the match and proved why he is an England international.

The 27-year-old is one of the best one-v-one defenders in Europe and with Aston Villa’s highline the ability to defend large spaces is needed more than ever.

Villa’s ice-cool centre-back did just that, including stopping an opposition player running through on goal by keeping his composure and showing his strength during the one-v-one dual.

Signed by Dean Smith, Konsa is now flourishing and has taken his game to another level under the genius of Emery.

Konsa’s stats during Villa’s draw against Bournemouth

Konsa was on the bench for Villa’s win over Fulham last time out and he came back into the XI during the win over Bologna in the Champions League.

He played at right-back on that occasion, but started at centre-back alongside Pau Torres against the Cherries.

Given that Matty Cash had a questionable game for Villa against Bournemouth, then you can see why Emery starts him at right-back on occasions.

But overall, Konsa was handed a rating of 6.97 by WhoScored.
