Ollie Watkins is now slowly getting back to his best for Aston Villa.
At the start of the season, Aston Villa’s hitman was coming under fire after going through a goal drought and missing some big chances.
But as Gary Lineker pointed out, he is a ‘really good’ centre-forward following his recent Premier League showing and it’s just part and parcel of playing that role.
You have to say that England are blessed to have two top strikers at their disposal, with the duo playing at the top of their game.
Watkins helped Villa beat Fulham at the weekend by finding the back of the net with a brilliant header, whilst Kane netted a hat-trick during Bayern Munich’s comfortable 4-0 win over Stuttgart.
Thomas Tuchel is the new England manager and he probably has more goals to pick from than any other international manager in world football.
But Villa fans are hoping Watkins is treated better on England duty with Tuchel now through the doors.
Gary Lineker thinks Ollie Watkins is annoyed at missed England chance
Lee Carsley is in interim charge of England and when Kane was injured for the Greece game, rather than start Watkins, he played a whole host of attacking midfielders and it backfired.
Well, with Watkins scoring again at the weekend, Lineker rightfully praised the player for his efforts and spoke about his recent situation with his country.
The Match of the Day host was speaking with Alan Shearer and he shared a conversation they had behind camera about how Watkins would have been annoyed at that England snub, as he told The Rest is Football.

“They (Aston Villa) have got a really good centre-forward in Ollie Watkins, who is scoring goals again after a slight (spell without scoring),” said Lineker.
“We all know that as strikers you go through spells where you don’t score. We were saying yesterday, weren’t we, when Kane was injured, and we were talking in the office yesterday, God, he must have been p___d off for not getting a chance with England.”
Watkins v Harry Kane stats
Not many Villa fans are going to argue, but they understand that Kane, who is also the England captain, will lead the line for his country.
The only thing fans want is for their player to be respected and used more if the Munich star isn’t performing, or in the recent case, injured.
Watkins’ form is now starting to pick up, with eight goal involvements to his name this term, but he will be desperate for that first Champions League goal.
| Competition | Games played | Goals | Assists | Minutes played | |

| UEFA Champions League | 2 | – | 1 | 130′ | |
| Total 24/25: | 10 | 5 | 3 | 741 | |
Yes, it needs to be noted that Kane is playing in Germany’s top tier and isn’t comparable to the Premier League.
But the 31-year-old is playing in a bigger pressure cooker than Watkins, as well as pushing for the title, and as you can see, he is smashing it, including supplying an incredible six assists.
