Aston Villa legend Gabby Agbonlahor reacted to his former side’s defeat to Manchester United yesterday afternoon, taking to Twitter X to question one of Unai Emery’s key decisions.
Last week was tough for Aston Villa as Unai Emery saw his side suffer an FA Cup exit on Wednesday, followed by defeat on Sunday in the Premier League.
The Villans struggled to hit their usual standards from the off against Manchester United, who took the lead after just 17 minutes through Rasmus Hojlund.
It took Villa until the 67th minute of play to respond despite applying the pressure in the final third, as Douglas Luiz netted his seventh of the campaign to level the playing field and get his side back in the game.
One moment of sluggish defending saw all of the host’s hard work unravel, as Scott McTominay beat Matty Cash to the ball in the box to score United’s winner just four minutes from time.

It was a frustrating afternoon for all associated with Villa, as communicated by club legend Gabby Agbonlahor, who took to Twitter X to share his thoughts during and after the contest.
What Gabby Agbonlahor had to say on Aston Villa defeat
During the game, the Englishman shared his frustrations with Emery’s decision to take off Leon Bailey, who was one of the host’s brightest sparks throughout the game.
After Luke Shaw was withdrawn during the interval, Victor Lindelof found it increasingly difficult to contain the Jamaican, who completed 100% of his attempted take-ons.
Soon after Villa scored through Luiz, the manager hooked the 26-year-old, a decision that was not received warmly by most, including Agbonlahor.
Taking to Twitter X, the 37-year-old said, “why take Bailey off again”, showing his thoughts on Emery’s substitution.
It wasn’t just the personnel changes that saw the club’s leading Premier League goalscorer comment on the game on social media, as he angrily reacted to the full-time result.
“Never seen a more one sided game and we lose. We miss too many chances and give away easy goals Football is cruel!!”
The talkSPORT pundit had a point with his evaluation of the game, as Villa registered more corners, shots on target, total shots and possession than the visitors, who walked away with three points.
With the gap between 5th and 6th now closed to five points, it’s integral that Emery’s side bounce back quickly in order to keep their hopes of securing Champions League football alive.
