Aston Villa have been drawn up against League One side Wycombe Wanderers in round three of the Carabao Cup.
The draw took place on Wednesday evening after the conclusion of the round two matches, with Wycombe beating Championship side Swansea City to progress.
Unai Emery‘s side entered the League Cup at this stage because they are in Europe, as the format of the draw was also changed so Champions League and Europa League sides don’t face each other.
It’s an advantage for Aston Villa and it’s one fans will be hoping the team takes with both arms because this is their best chance to win a trophy – the team has not gone passed round three since 2020.
Villa are in the Champions League, so the tie at Adams Park will take place the week commencing 23 September.
You suspect that several changes will be made to the XI given that it’s going to be a very busy September for the Midlands club.
Wycombe, who are sitting 16th in England’s third-tier, posted on Twitter ‘Bring on the Villa’ when the draw was made.
Added to that, the players were on the coach making their way back from Swansea and the club posted footage on their socials of how they reacted to getting Villa out of the hat.
There was a loud cheer when Villa were drawn out, with the club adding on Twitter ‘the lads are happy with that’.
Aston Villa to play Wycombe in the League Cup
Who could play against Wycombe?
Yes, it’s still a few weeks away, but putting injuries aside, you feel this will be the game where Emery makes wholesale changes.
From Ross Barkley to Enzo Barrenechea, you question if these players will get many starts in these coming weeks, so that could be the game for those new signings to showcase their worth.

Aston Villa want to sign Lutsharel Geertruida before Friday’s transfer deadline and you think he could be another player featuring in that game – that’s if they get their man.
Another name you expect to feature is Jhon Duran after his winner at West Ham because Ollie Watkins will remain number one, regardless.
