Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz has clapped back at pundit Rio Ferdinand after the former England international mocked the Brazilian’s celebration during the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United.
It was an afternoon to forget for Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday, as Unai Emery’s side were defeated at Villa Park for the third consecutive fixture in front of their home supporters.
The result meant that the Villans were forced to occupy 5th place in the Premier League table after matchday 24, as Tottenham leapfrogged the Midlands club to sit one point ahead in 4th.
With one point between the Champions League and Europa League spots, the race for the top four is truly on, with Villa hoping to bounce back quickly after a dip in form following their loss to United.

Despite the dreary week that the squad endured, losing twice at Villa Park in the space of five days, high spirits seem to still be in circulation, as Douglas Luiz took the time to clap back at Rio Ferdinand’s comments on his goal celebration.
What Douglas Luiz responded to Rio Ferdinand’s dig at Aston Villa
As a former player and supporter of Manchester United, Ferdinand was clearly overjoyed with his team’s late victory, taking to Twitter X to mock Luiz over his celebration when he levelled the game.
The Brazilian netted his seventh goal of the Premier League campaign to score the equaliser, before Scott McTominay cancelled out the host’s hope with an 86th-minute winner to take all three points back to Old Trafford.
After the game, Ferdinand opted to celebrate United’s win by posting a picture of Luiz celebrating his goal, saying “U ok” to mock the 25-year-old.
Not losing sleep over the former England international’s comments, Villa’s number six penned a nine-word response to the pundit’s tweet this morning.
“I’m good, thanks. It’s just carnival time in Brazil.”
For some reason, Manchester United weren’t a fan of Luiz’s ‘shoulder shimmy’, as Raphael Varane had to be separated from the Villa midfielder after showing his displeasure with his celebration.
The £75k-a-week dynamo claimed his celebration was to symbolise the carnival period that is currently happening in his homeland, leaving Ferdinand a little red-faced as his attempt to mock the Brazilian was diffused by his response.
Of course, the 25-year-old would’ve hoped that his goal could have stood for more than just an equaliser during the defeat, although Luiz can keep his head held high as he recorded another stellar performance in the engine room for the Villans.
