Aston Villa finally broke their hoodoo and booked a ticket to the Fourth Round of the FA Cup on Saturday by beating Middlesbrough 1-0.
It required a late Matty Cash goal to seal the win for Unai Emery’s side at the Riverside Stadium and the right-back was understandably ecstatic after the match.
In his post-match interview, the Aston Villa man shared that he has a ‘full-back coach’, which seemingly took presenter Mark Chapman by surprise, as broadcast on BBC One.
Matty Cash stated that the fullback coach ‘works closely’ with him, including the wingers, and how the detail on the training ground from Unai Emery is just ‘crazy’.
That shouldn’t be a surprise given the year Aston Villa have just had and how the team is showing signs of progressing even further.
It’s just great to see the team finally progress in the FA Cup and now, hopefully, go on a bit of a run.
If that is to happen, then players like Matty Cash are going to be very, very crucial as he shared his thoughts after the game.
Matty Cash’s goal wins FA Cup tie
“It’s crazy, the detail we work on is amazing,” said Cash. “Every single game we play, there is a different solution and the manager just knows what it is.
“Sometimes, for me, it’s to be a little deeper, but then he lets me join the play. Sometimes, I will know there is space on the outside and then there is space on the inside. But it’s also nice to sit deeper and play passes.
“He (Emery) has improved me a lot. He works closely with me and we have a fullback coach who works closely with me.”
Mark Chapman then interrupted: “Did you say you have a fullbacks coach as well?”
Cash responded: “We have a fullback coach who works closely with the wingers and stuff.”

Next up Everton
The one big positive from the win at Boro was the clean sheet, much-needed and it should provide the team with a bit of confidence going into the Everton game.
This isn’t going to be easy by any stretch. Yes, Sean Dyche’s side are sitting 17th in the Premier League table.
But that’s after a ten-point deduction, their performances have been far better than the table suggests, that’s for sure.
And whilst Villa smashed Everton 4-0 in the Premier League at the start of the season, they did beat us in the League Cup at Villa Park. Our only defeat on home soil since February in all competitions and this Goodison Park trip is going to be a lot trickier.
