‘Bad one’… Aston Villa defender breaks silence after injury blow on international duty last night

Unai Emery would have been desperate for his Aston Villa squad to return to Bodymoor Heath injury-free after international duty.

Douglas Luiz will face Ollie Watkins and Ezri Konsa when Brazil take on England at Wembley on Saturday.

Youri Tielemans is another who will be heading to the home of football, with Belgium also set to face Gareth Southgate’s side next week.

Further afield, Emi Martinez will clock over 12,000 miles whilst on Argentina duty. The 31-year-old will first travel to Philadelphia before heading to Los Angeles to face Costa Rica.

Another player who has already featured for his country is Matty Cash. Unfortunately, the 26-year-old was forced off ten minutes after being introduced in the second half of Poland’s 5-1 win over Estonia.

The Daily Mail reports that a hamstring issue is at play. The problem first emerged after he collided with an advertisement hoarding.

And now, the former Nottingham Forest man has provided an update.

Matty Cash breaks silence after Poland injury blow

Taking to his personal X account on Friday, 22 March, Cash wrote: “A great night in Warsaw ended in a bad one for me! Best of luck in the final, everyone! Let’s go Polska! 1 more.”

Cash’s message indicates that he has ruled himself out of Poland’s European Championship decider against Wales, which is more bad news for Emery.

How will Aston Villa cope without Matty Cash?

Fortunately, the Villa boss has rotated his defensive options this season. Konsa started on the right of a back four against West Ham United and is comfortable operating in that position.

The Englishman has started 26 Premier League matches compared to Cash’s 21, perhaps indicating who Emery is eager to select.

However, the injury is a blow to Villa’s strength in depth. If another defender were to pick up an issue, it would feel like a case of square pegs in round holes for the Villa boss.

Cash was introduced at halftime at the London Stadium and provided a dazzling block to deny the Hammers a second goal. If the injury is longer term, it couldn’t have come at a worse time for the right back.
