Aston Villa have several players out on loan in the EFL at present, and it’s fair to say they are having varying levels of success.

Blackburn Rovers’ Ben Chrisene impressed with his performance during the FA Cup loss to Newcastle United, catching the eye.

Sebastian Revan at Rotherham United is another player currently operating in the second tier.

The versatile defender is now embarking on his third loan spell away from Villa Park, having previously represented Grimsby Town and Hereford.

Considering he’s only 20, Revan already has plenty of experience.

After signing for Grimsby, Birmingham Live’s Aston Villa writer Ashley Preece referred to the defender as a player ready to “spread his wings”.

He told The Grimsby Telegraph: “The Mariners are getting an extremely athletic, quick and strong left-footed full-back.”

Unfortunately, his latest loan spell at Rotherham United has been an extremely steep learning curve for Revan.

Aston Villa loanee has night to forget

The Millers are currently rooted to the bottom of the Championship table and will return to the third tier next season.

As is often the case with Rotherham, they are never quite able to perform consistently in the second tier.

On Tuesday evening, the Millers’ season hit a new low as an Ellis Simms hat trick helped Coventry City to a 5-0 win.

Revan started the night on the bench but was substituted during the first half and had a 55-minute cameo to forget.

Per Sofascore, the 20-year-old defender attempted six duels on the ground and aerially; he was only successful once. After crunching the numbers, Revan lost 83 per cent of his duels.

Furthermore, the defender’s two crosses were inaccurate, and he failed to complete a dribble.

Learning curve for Aston Villa loanee

Revan must take these experiences and turn them into a positive. The 20-year-old endured a difficult night against the Sky Blues, but he will now be prepared for a similar situation further down the line.

Aston Villa will probably be pleased that he is enduring ups and downs in South Yorkshire.

Regardless of Rotherham’s league status next season, another Championship loan should be on the cards.

Looking at a club slightly further up the league standings would be an excellent fit, and considering he’s only 20, he could still have a bright future at Villa Park.
