Aston Villa star, Douglas Luiz has been singled out for praise following his performance in the 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
Following a loss last time out on the road, Aston Villa have bounced back with a hard-fought win at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
It has been said that Unai Emery’s side hasn’t been as good as their devasting form at home, but they performed well and secured all three points.
The home side took the lead as Giovani Lo Celso smashed home a half-volley from the edge of the area. Although it took a flick off Diego Carlos, Emi Martinez was still very frustrated to have not kept the effort out.
Villa came back into the game as Pau Torres latched on to an unbelievable cross to power a header in on the brink of halftime.

With Leon Bailey and Youri Tielemans coming on at halftime, the Villans looked much better and took the lead not long later. The Belgian found Ollie Watkins whose touch and finish was top-class to spark some away-end carnage.
The rest of the game saw the Villans see it out and earn a great comeback win. One man who has had a superb start to the season shone once again as he dragged Villa onto level terms.
How good was Douglas Luiz?
Praise doesn’t come much higher than legendary Premier League midfielder, Roy Keane who called Douglas Luiz ‘amazing’ on Sky Sports.
Although there were many standouts from Leon Bailey to Pau Torres, the Brazilian midfielder is who we have singled out. Considering he is on £75k-a-week, he is on one of the lesser wages of all of Villa’s stars.
This is mainly due to both the eye test but also due the stats he accrued during the game. The Villa number six was ranked 7.8 on SofaScore and did much more than just providing the assist for Torres’ goal.
On the offensive side of his game, he was superb. Luiz is always looking for the ball and the Spurs game was no different in that respect. He had the most touches of any Villa player with 66 while also making the most passes. The Brazilian also had the best pass accuracy with 94% which aren’t typically stats which marry up. On top of all of that, he made the second-most key passes for the Villans. This helped to secure all three points.
On the flip side, he also was positive in a defensive sense. With three tackles, two interceptions and 100% of aerial duels won he was monstrous in the centre of the park. It must be said that his first-half performance wasn’t great, but nobody was in fairness to him.
Another great performance from Villa’s Brazilian midfielder, and with Emery talking down a move to Arsenal. Villa fans can get used to this kind of stuff on a regular basis for many seasons to come.
