Newly-promoted Aston Villa are plotting a raid for Leeds United striker Kemar Roofe this summer, according to a report.

The Daily Star have claimed that Leeds have opened contract talks with the 26-year-old striker, who is entering the final year of his current Elland Road deal.

It is said that Villa are hoping to take advantage of Roofe’s current situation as the former West Brom academy product played a big part in Marcelo Bielsa’s side reaching the playoffs during the recently concluded season.

Villa recently earned promotion to the Premier League when they beat Derby County in the Championship play-off final – The Rams had beaten Leeds on their road to Wembley, whilst Dean Smith’s side overcame Midland rivals, West Brom.

Nonetheless, striker Roofe was one of the standout performers for Leeds during that run to the playoffs and he would be a huge miss if he were to depart the Yorkshire club in the summer.

But given Villa’s Premier League status, they can now attract the best of the best and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they have players of a higher calibre on their summer wishlist.

As a result, it would be a surprise if Villa were to push for a potential Roofe deal because whilst he was a top performer for Leeds, there were better strikers who outperformed him this season.
