Jed Steer expressed his delight on Twitter after he helped Aston Villa beat West Brom on penalties in the second leg of their play-off semi-final encounter at The Hawthorns.

Dean Smith’s side went into the Tuesday night clash with a one-goal advantage, but that was cancelled out by Craig Dawson when his header in the first half ensured the scores were level on aggregate.

The away team dominated possession throughout, but a steely defence didn’t allow Villa to test Sam Johnstone as much as they would have liked.

In the end, the game went to penalties with Villa winning 4-3 as Steer was the hero on the night because he saved West Brom’s first two spot-kicks.

After the game, he sent this message to the club’s supporters on his personal Twitter account.

It has been some journey for Steer, who started the season in between the sticks for Villa, but despite not doing much wrong then-manager Steve Bruce sent him out on loan to League One side Charlton.

But in January, Smith decided to recall the shot-stopper and after spending some time on the bench, he soon found himself in the starting XI.

Since Villa’s 1-1 draw at Stoke City in February, he has kept his place in the side and he will now be planning for a trip to Wembley where he could potentially play a part in his team making a return to the Premier League.
