Jack Grealish has lauded Aston Villa’s comeback win against West Brom on Twitter after Dean Smith’s side seized a slender advantage against their rivals in the play-off semi-finals on Saturday.

In what was a cagey affair, Villa had to score two goals in the final 15 minutes to secure a much-needed and valuable 2-1 win against their neighbours on home soil.

It now means that the Midlands outfit only have to avoid defeat in order for them to book another trip to Wembley after losing out to Fulham last May.

Grealish, who produced a Man of the Match display against the Baggies, took to his personal Twitter account to post this message to his supporters.

Albion opened the scoring in the first half when an alert Dwight Gayle pounced on Glenn Whelan’s mistake to put his team into the lead.

The home team pressed for an equaliser throughout the first half, but they were unable to find a way through a stern Baggies defence.

The same pattern continued after the break, but just after the hour mark, Smith brought on the more attack-minded Hourihane for Whelan and it changed the complexion of the game.

The Republic of Ireland international equalised with an exquisite strike from outside of the area before Grealish was brought down in the penalty area moments later – Tammy Abraham stepped up and put away the spot-kick.

Smith and his players now head to The Hawthorns on Tuesday night knowing that they are potentially 90 minutes away from booking another trip to the capital.
