Jack Grealish has hailed the performance of trio John McGinn, Tyrone Mings and Glenn Whelan following Aston Villa’s 3-0 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Dean Smith’s side opened the scoring through Anwar El Ghazi, with McGinn adding a second before the break and substitute Albert Adomah making sure of the points late on.

Midfielder McGinn was a constant threat all game, while Whelan provided the solidity in front of the defence and centre-back Mings helped his team to another clean sheet.

After the match, Grealish praised the team, including a number of players for their performance, as posted on his personal Twitter account.

The win is a massive boost to Villa’s play-off hopes because they are now sitting in the top-six with eight Championship games of the season remaining.

Only a month ago, following their home defeat to rivals West Brom, many Villa supporters would have agreed that their chances of promotion this season were well and truly over.

However, the timely return of Grealish from injury has resulted in Smith’s side winning four games on the bounce, securing three clean sheets and climbing up the table.

After the international break, Villa will entertain Blackburn Rovers then take on their former manager Steve Bruce at Sheffield Wednesday.
