Ian Taylor has criticised Aston Villa on Twitter for their ‘poor showing’ during their 3-0 drubbing at Wigan on Saturday afternoon.

Dean Smith’s side failed to record a shot on target as their hopes for a top six finish this season took another damaging blow.

The home team opened the scoring through Gary Roberts in the first half before two goals in the final 11 minutes sealed the visitor’s fate.

Holte End favourite Taylor offered his thoughts on his personal Twitter account after the defeat as he pointed out the job Smith has on his hands.

As a result of conceding those three goals, Villa have now shipped 43 goals during this campaign – one more than what they conceded throughout last season.

It is pretty obvious that Smith has huge defensive problems at the club, with centre-back Tommy Elphick recalled early from his loan spell [BBC Sport] and Villa signing Kortney Hause on loan from Wolves this month [BBC Sport].

Against Wigan, Elphick partnered James Chester at the heart of the club’s defence, with Hause coming on as a second-half substitute.

The defeat leaves Villa five points outside of the playoff places as they will host in-form Hull City on home soil on Saturday.

Nigel Adkin’s side have won six games on the bounce and are one point above Villa in the table.
