Glenn Whelan has stated that he’ll ‘keep going’ until he is wanted by Aston Villa as he prepares for the Championship play-off final against Derby County.
Dean Smith’s side will travel to Wembley on Monday afternoon for the biggest game of their season and with a chance of making a return to the Premier League.
Defensive-minded midfielder Whelan, whose contract at Villa Park expires at the end of the season [transfermarkt], will be in with a chance of starting against the Rams.

Ahead of the game, Whelan, who has been in a rich vein of form since March, shared his thoughts on his future and life at Villa, at this moment in time.
“I’m loving my football,” Whelan told Birmingham Live. “I think I’ve missed one training session this year. So I will keep going as long as I can. As long as I’m wanted and can affect games and I’m enjoying it, I’ll keep going.
“It’s not an issue, I signed a two-year contract to get this club back in the Premier League. I was a whisker away last year. Hopefully, I have a chance this year. I have not spoken to the manager about it.

“Everyone at the club is just waiting to see. I am never knocking on doors or busting down doors to find what is happening. I keep my head down and hopefully, if we get the win, something will happen. I am worried about Monday and getting the right result before anything else.”
Villa signed Whelan during the summer of 2017 when Steve Bruce was in charge of the club and the former Stoke City man played a big part in his team reaching Wembley last term.
Whelan will be hoping to go one better this time around as the Midland giants aim to put the wrongs of the previous campaign right and end their three-year absence from England’s top-flight.
It is fair to say that since Dean Smith’s arrival, Whelan has played his best football under the attack-minded manager despite being more suited to Bruce’s more robust style of play.
