Dean Smith has made it clear that Aston Villa’s most recent mistake is not down to their ‘new players’ as they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Bournemouth on Saturday.
On the opening day of the Premier League season, Villa were beaten at Tottenham, with costly mistakes in the middle of the park helping Spurs in their quest of securing all three points.
Over the weekend, things went from bad to worse for the Midlands outfit when Tom Heaton conceded a penalty inside the first minute then Douglas Luiz’s misjudgment outside his own area resulted in Harry Wilson doubling Bournemouth’s lead inside 15 minutes.

After the match, Smith made it clear that the influx of new players over the summer hasn’t resulted in Villa starting off on the wrong foot.
“I don’t put it down to new players,” Smith told Villa’s official website.
“Mistakes happen in almost every game. You’ll see all the goals from today and a lot of them will come from mistakes. They had some fortune with the second goal in deflecting off Tyrone.
“I think they’ve had a massive amount of fortune with Phil Billing staying on the pitch.”
At this moment in time, there won’t be any concerns with those associated with Villa, but points need to be put on the board before things get difficult.
Despite having a mountain to climb against Bournemouth, Villa’s performance, aside from the mistakes, was perhaps worthy of them securing all three points.
But the opening of that match cost them too dearly, as they will now turn their attention to taking on unbeaten Everton on Friday night.
